Existing Situation of teaching & learning: As a student, getting rapped on the knuckles on a wintry morning because you did not form a letter correctly was a routine practice of the teachers at the school which I attended. The teacher entered the room, expecting the students to copy pages of notes

from the chalkboard. The student who reproduced these without missing a single punctuation mark, spelling mistake and perfect handwriting got full marks.
University of the Punjab
Established in 1882 at Lahore
Established in 1882 at Lahore, the University of the Punjab is the largest and the oldest seat of higher learning in Pakistan. It was the first to be established in the sub-continent in Muslim majority area. The fact that three Nobel laureates are from this University speaks volumes for its academic and research excellence.
Located in the historical and culturally alive city of Lahore, this University has played a leading role in higher education in the country. The University strives to provide a conducive environment for the pursuit of the academic activities. On account of its quality degrees, pleasant environment and low tuition fees the University remains the institution of first choice for admission seeking students.
Allama Iqbal Campus, named after the great South Asian thinker and mystic poet, with Islamic architectural design is in the middle of the bustling city of Lahore. Quaid-i-Azam Campus, after the name of the father of the Nation, is located 12 kilometers to the South of Allama Iqbal Campus. Spread over an area of 1800 acres of lush green landscape, this campus is the centre of academic and administrative activities of the University. A canal dividing the academic blocks from the student lodgings and adds to the beauty of the campus. The University has also a summer campus at Khanaspur, located at a height of about 7,000 ft. in the Himalayan range near Ayubia. This Campus, in addition to providing research facilities, is also used as a recreational centre for the faculty and the students. The University has also started Campus at Gujranwala, with four disciplines i.e. Business Administration, Commerce, Law and Information Technology. Few more disciplines will be added in near future. The University comprises of 4 Campuses, 13 Faculties, 9 constituent colleges, 64 Departments, Centres, Institutes, and 434 affiliated colleges. It has 623 permanent faculty members involved in teaching/research and over 30,000 on campus students. Annually there are about 350 exams for 400,000 students. As part of the President’s reform initiative, Higher Education Commission has been established, to monitor advanced research and higher education, which acts as an advisory body in implementing Government policies. It allocates funds and coordinates academic matters of the Universities. The President has also established Chancellor’s Steering Committee to monitor developments in education. Rs. 16.00 billion has been allocated for higher education which is over 3300% more then the previous allocations by any Government since independence.

The Netherlands supports schools in Pakistan
News item 12-12-2005
Primary schools in Pakistan can count on Dutch support in the next few years, with ?30 million now earmarked for 2006. This means that the Netherlands will be expanding its development programme in Pakistan to include education.
This was announced by Development Minister Agnes van Ardenne at her meeting with the Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz.
In Pakistan, as elsewhere, children need to go to school, and the Netherlands wants to help them to do so over the next few years. Special focus will be placed on the pre-school development of young children, and on the quality of teaching and teaching materials. This means that the Netherlands will be expanding its development programme in Pakistan to include education.
"By 2015, all children in Pakistan must be attending school, with as many girls as boys getting an education," announced Minister van Ardenne. "The Netherlands is going to help the provinces there - which make their own curriculums - to achieve these Millennium Development Goals. Pakistan itself is responsible for educating its children, but the Netherlands will provide money and advice."
At present, only 58% of Pakistan's children attend school, and for every ten boys in the classroom there are only six girls. That is why an extra effort will have to be made to get girls into school.
EarthquakeThe development partnership with Pakistan was not the only reason for the Minister's visit. She and her Irish counterpart Conor Lenihan also visited the areas in Pakistan that were hit by the earthquake two months ago.
The Dutch government has released a total of €28 for emergency aid to Pakistan, €10 million of which has been channelled through UNICEF to set up temporary schools in tents. The Dutch aid organisations launched a joint appeal and collected more than €30 million from the public for the aid effort in Pakistan.

The British Council’s School
The British Council’s School Links project aims to provide a forum where schools in Pakistan can link up with like-minded counterparts in the United Kingdom. School Links partnerships foster a mutual interest among students about each other’s activities, interests and lifestyles.
A partnership between the linked schools must be equal, reciprocal and fun and it should contribute to the curriculum and broad interests of both the schools.A successful school link should be able to raise young people’s awareness of cultural diversity and promote understanding among different communities.

SECONDARY EDUCATION IN BRITISH
SECONDARY EDUCATION
At the age of 11, most children go to comprehevsive schools of which the mayority are for both boys & girls.
About 90 % of all state-financed secondary schools are of this type. Most other children receive secondary education in grammar & secondary modern schools. ( Until 1960s most children took an examination at the end of primary school (The 11+): those who passed it succesfully went to grammar schools while those who did not went to secondary modern schools. A few areas especially in the south of England still have selective exams at the age of 11.)
Comprehensive schools were introduced in 1965. The idea of comprehensive education, supported by the Labour Party, was to give all children of whatever background the same opportunity in education.
At 16 students in England and Wales take GCSE examinations. In 1988 these examinations replaced the GCE(General Sertificate of Education) and O-levels(Ordinary levels) which were usually passed by about 29 % of school students. GCSE exams are taken by students of all levels of ability in any of a range of subjects, and may involve a final examination, and assessment of work done by the student during the 2-year course, or both of these things.
Some comprehensive schools, however, do not have enough academic courses for 6-formers. Students can transfer either to a grammar school or to 6-form college to get the courses they want. School-leavers with jobs sometimes take part-time vocational courses, on day-release from work. School-leavers without jobs get no money from the government unless they join a youth training scheme, which provides a living allowance during 2 years of work experience.
At 18 some students take A-level(Advanced level) examinations, usually in two or three subjects. It is necessary to have A-level in order to go to a university or Polytechnic.
But some pupils want to stay on at school after taking their GCSE, to prepare for a vocational course or to work rather then for A-level examinations. Then they have to take the CPVE examination which means the Certificate of Pre-Vocational Education.
Warwick School of Law
The Law School was established in 1969 and has since developed into one of the leading law schools in the UK. Its teaching standards and research quality consistently receive high ratings, and the University ranks in the four leading research and teaching institutions in the UK. The contextual approach has been developed at Warwick for over twenty-five years. Our aim is to avoid treating law as if it can be separated from other aspects of society.
Barnard Castle Preparatory School
The Prep School is an integral part of Barnard Castle School, having access to all its facilities and expertise. It is situated in a separate area of the school grounds with its own organisation, staff and buildings. Pupils, therefore, have the benefit of the security of their own area while benefiting from many extras. The Prep School has recently undergone a substantial refurbishment programme and the next few years should see more developments.
American Assosaiation of School Administration
It’s a terrible truism today that children in fear cannot learn, and teachers who are on guard against violence in their classrooms cannot impart a love for the lesson at the same time. But how do we ensure safety without turning schools into virtual prisons in the name of security?
School buildings should provide a warm and inviting environment that stimulates learning and development. However, with school safety concerns intensifying nationwide, architects and school administrators are concluding that while schools should not operate as secure fortresses, school building design must integrate security functions into remodeling and new construction plans.
Designing Safer Sites
Research on school building design and safety has led to the development of security systems and technologies that not only make schools safe and nurturing places, but also reduce operating costs associated with traditional precautions. For example:
When planning a school design, exterior doors should be secured with hardware that is unobtrusive and does not affect the aesthetics of the environment. School entrances and doorways must create a positive and welcoming first impression, while at the same time incorporating appropriate and necessary security devices, such as locking mechanisms, intercoms and access-card readers.

I believe this building was the Stockton Secondary School (a grammar school)which my mother, cousin and I all attended. It was two schools, one for boys and one for girls. I think that it was founded in the early 1920s and my mother would have gone there about 1923/4. In 1951, the year after I started, we all moved to the new buildings and became known as Grangefield Grammar School. The basement of the school was the shared gym. I think the other shared room was the Hall. The top rooms were the science laboratories and there were various outbuildings which housed different classes.

the John Lea School
Welcome to johnleaschool.com, the John Lea School pictorial history website, presenting the photographs and historical information collected and researched by ex-pupil Trevor Jones.
What is school? School's a way of life for me And for many others too I find it very helpful In finding things to do. I like the choice of subjects There's many to enjoy Like Maths and French and English I treat them like a toy. But when I've done my quota What will become of me? A worker in a factory Or live up in a tree. But I will still remember When one and two made three And where I had my fun and games That smashing school John Lea. Ian Jones, 2A, aged 12, 1977. John Lea School, Doddington Road, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, England, UK, first opened its doors to 356 pupils in 1953. At its peak, the Comprehensive school provided education for several hundred pupils aged 11 to 18. 45 years after opening, in 1998, the school was closed due to a diminishing pupil count. In 2001 the 22 acre school site, building and sports fields, were demolished to make way for new housing, to help with Wellingborough's burgeoning population and housing need. This site has been created to keep the memory and spirit of John Lea School alive. Most schools that are lucky enough to stay open do manage to keep their buildings and architecture, their old records and their history corridor of old school photographs. Unfortunately, there is little physical evidence remaining that John Lea School ever existed, which is why it is so important to have at least one place, albeit in cyberspace on the web, where people can revisit and remember the school, its teachers and pupils. Please use this website to find out more about John Lea School, look at old school photographs, read old school magazines, take a virtual tour of the school, and much more. Please tell your family and friends about the site. This website has been created by ex-pupils of John Lea. The site focuses on providing historical information about the school on a publicly available and free to access website. This is different to the 'friends reunited' website, which focuses on personal ex-pupil contact details and reunions and, as such, is not public and requires registration, and sometimes payment, to gain access. If you have any photographs of the school or school magazines which you would like to make available on this website for everyone to see, then please contact us.

North American School of Natural Building
Recently on the Coblist, Ray requested to see more photos of the North American School of Natural Building in Coquille, Oregon. Cob Cottage workshop alumni work on wonderful cob buildings… then leave never to see how the place evolves!I worked on a small cottage in the 2001 Cob Cottage workshop. Monica Proulx sent some images of the ‘complex’ from her 2006 workshop experience. If any one else has photos of the Natural Building School, please send them along and I’ll post em to the gallery.

In a lot close to the current school location, we are constructing a new school building. The new building will be 1085 m2 in size and will be made of Finnish wood in line with our belief in providing a natural and healthy learning space for our students. The new school will have ten classrooms. It is scheduled to be completed in March 2009 so we can start using the new building in April.

Dannavieng’s school building project updated news
Earlier today I received photos and updated information about the school building project at Bane Dannavieng, in Champassack Province. The new elementary school is not quite completed but has made a big progress thanks to the contributors to the project. The school now has a roof over the 8×50 meters building, which will hold 6 classrooms to be utilized for many years to come. At present, the piles of red dirt you see in the photos will be used as the floor foundation. Below are photos from the school’s officials with a note of big THANK YOU, to all who made this possible.

Yale Elementary School
Yale Elementary School 1954 Alumni send greetings to you the viewer. We have made this site for the world to see. We welcome you and hope the things that we have here will be a blessing to you. Please feel free to e-mail any of us. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Our grade school is located on the south side of Chicago at 7025 S. Princeton. Our neighborhood was a rapidly changing area with the state purchase of properties for the Dan Ryan Expressway. Almost immediately after graduation, several families moved away. Most of us got separated with the moves and high schools. In 2001, one of our classmates thought it would be time to try and find the lost ones. With the wonderful web site ofclassmates.com, he started searching for some of the class. He sent out several e-mails with no response. In April 2002, someone else signed up on the grade school graduation page. An e-mail was sent to that party and that was the start of an almost impossible journey. In January, another person listed their name and then there was three. That sparked new hope of finding more. In April, another party was found. She took the list and located all but 5 of the 29 students. We have shared some great stories and experiences with each other and we would like to share some of them with you also. Several on this list had graduated in June of 1954 and we thought that we should include anyone that we could find.

NEW BUILDINGS WILL NOT BRING NEW STUDENTS INTO CITY SCHOOLS
About forty years ago I first attended school at Hall Elementary on the southwest side of town. There's even a yellowed newspaper article with a photo of me attending the area's first Head Start class to prove it. (So, you see, my liberal friends, I actually owe everything that I am today to LBJ and the Great Society. ;) At the time the school was almost new, built nine years earlier to accommodate the post-war baby boom. So now, with only a half-century's wear-and-tear on the building, the Grand Rapids Board of Education voted on Monday to tear it down and construct a brand spanking new school.
Charter schools specialize in education
we specialize in finance.
1- There are over twenty sources of facilities funding for schools in the U.S. We know which ones will be a good fit for your project.2- Representatives of the underwriters and lenders are employed to get the best possible return for their company. They won't give you any concessions or discounts that you don't negotiate for.3- We know when and where additional concessions or benefits may be available.4- We negotiate very hard in our client's behalf.5- We understand the hidden costs of facilities financing and how to eliminate or minimize many of them.6- Legal fees can be very expensive if you don't limit them. We can help to keep them at a minimum.7- Providence Financial has become the nation's largest independent marketer of charter school facilities financing. Whether you manage a charter school or a private school, you can take advantage of being part of that volume. With that volume, Providence can negotiate pricing and concessions that no school could achieve on its own.

Smaller schools
If you are a student that likes one on one attention and feels more comfortable in smaller situations, then small schools are the choice for you. Small educational environments, whether it is a high school or a college, have several benefits to fit one’s needs.
First of all, they have smaller classes, which means more emphasis on actually teaching the children instead of just teaching as much information as possible. This also means that students will have an easier time getting into the classes that they want, as there are not as many students trying to enter classes.
